Not only did I have the opportunity to attend and sponsor an AWESOME event, but also helped provide gifts for kids in Detroit as well. The holiday edition of Pass The Mic was put on by Renisha and took place at The stART Gallery located in Detroit. Pass The Mic had good vibes, great performances, and intriguing artwork as well. This is a great way to expose underground talent, and become aware of more artists. Below are a few clips, just to give you a taste of how it went down...

Pro Era Presents "Peep: The aPROcalypse"

With the rumors of the world ending today, why not drop an ill tape for us to listen to while the world crumbles? Finally we have it a mixtape from the entire Pro Era crew titled Peep: The aPROcalypse.

 Listening to this joint, you can tell the crew put a lot of time and effort into the entire project.  The Pro Era crew reversed the effects of the apocalypse with this one...

 Overall, this mixtape is grade "A" excellence, and was a great way to introduce some of the other members that we may not have heard much music from previously. They rhyme over a variety of beats, but still keep the bEAST coast vibe. Favorites include Like Water, F A Rap Critic, The Renaissance, Florists, Interlude 47, Vinyls, K.I.N.G.S., & Bun N Cheese.

Fresh Video: Chavis Chandler feat. Nolan The Ninja "Orderly Fashion"

The VVE (Verbal Vomit Enterprise) crew shot a video for Orderly Fashion, which is from Chavis Chandler's BOFA II, and features Nolan The Ninja. The video is shot entirely in black and white, with the exception of blue skies here and there, and has a vintage feel from beginning to end. Majority of the time, the crew is mobbing through the streets just enjoying themselves. Chavis' raw style sticks out simply because of the vintage glasses, bandana, gold chains, and leather biker jacket. Watch as the crew style on us in an orderly fashion...

If you're from Detroit, familiarize yourself with the VVE (Verbal Vomit Enterprise) crew. While shooting a video for Orderly Fashion, they decided to do a cypher. I am more familiar with certain members such as A Minus, Chavis Chandler, and Nolan The Ninja, so it was great hearing what the other group members bring to the table. Fresh Video: J.Fin "Folded" (Prod: Rated R)

When Vice City from J.Fin hit the street about a month ago, I expressed in a review I did that in the future I'd like to see visuals to either Patience, or Folded. This video is technically for Folded, but I got the best of both worlds, considering how in the beginning Patience was playing. This was shot entirely in black and white with an interesting VHS-like feature. Rowe Shot Me is on top of $hit with the directing! Keep an ear open for J.Fin's next project Hype Means Nothing releasing in early 2013.

The P.O.P.E. stands for "The Progress Over Previous Efforts" and is a new song from AR Caliber. I like the direction he went with the title because it's always important to move forward in life, and be better than you were the day before. What hooked me is when the beat dropped at the 5 second mark, and from then on AR was spitting some real lyrics. A statement that stuck out to me was "Bulletproof my thoughts so these b*tches can't shoot my dreams down". Truth is, you can't let everyone know what you aspire to do, because jealousy is a b*tch and most people will tell you that you can't do it.

Fresh Mixtape: Fresco "Max Julien"

 At last, here we have Max Julien from Tree Leader member Fresco. Back in July I posted How Ya Do Dat, which is a song from this project. Max Julien is actually an actor, and is well known from the role he played as Goldie in The Mack. Personally, I feel that this project could have been the soundtrack to The Mack lol. Overall, the tape is dope..

 I like certain things about each song, but certain songs stick out more than others. Those songs include, How Ya Do Dat, Pool Hall, Captain Save Em, Shhh..., Swag To The Max, and 11 Rings. The first time I played How Ya Do Dat in my truck, I felt like I should be riding hydraulics haha. Listen to Max Julien straight through, and you'll be sure to feel the vibe....

The Chase: Live at Organix Food Lounge

We all know The Chase has a special place in my heart. They seem to mix a jazz and hip hop vibe at the same time and make it work. The Chase recently had a live performance at the Organix Food Lounge in Atlanta! In this video, they performed a song called Love, which is from their debut mixtape Caught Up In The Chase. The group then transitioned into their performance of classic hit tunes such as Slum Village's Selfish, and to top it off You Got Me from The Roots feat. Erykah Badu. Shoutout to Abel Johnson, he was playing that saxophone impeccably. Deidre Nichole and Britne Dionne did a great job on the vocals as well!

In the video, a young lady catches her man cheating and the mistress is haunting her through her thoughts! The pain becomes unbearable, and she decides to do something about it..

Fresh Mixtape: J.Fin "Vice City"

The last project I heard from J.Fin was King Of Finland and now we have Vice City. This mixtape has a different vibe when comparing it to King Of Finland. Listening to Vice City makes me feel like I'm living lavish in Miami, whereas King Of Finland had more songs I'd fool to.  

Majority of the tracks are produced by Rated R, but there are a few produced by the homie T-Deezy.

My favorite track is 25 Lighters, because I feel like it brought the tape together. If 25 Lighters wasn't on there, I'd feel like the tape was missing something.

Overall, this a great....and I'd want to see visuals to either Patience or Folded

This new track No Chance is from Anthony Benard, and is a single off of his upcoming project #MMTA (Misunderstood More Than Anything). This song features other Detroit artists such as Eddie B and the woamie PDK. Having enough self confidence to say "nobody else has a chance" is a bold statement, and I love it. I like what I'm hearing from the younger Detroit artists out here, don't sleep and be looking out for #MMTA to be posted on the site upon its release.......Check out "No Chance"

Fresh Interview: PitchForkTV x Bruiser Brigade

Recently members of the Bruiser Brigade were interviewed by PitchForkTV at Gleason's Gym. I must say the boxing gym was a pretty dope spot to have an interview seeing how it correlates with their crew name! Danny Brown talks about his latest drops, his upcoming album, and how he linked up with Chavis Chandler and ZelooperZ. To end the interview the crew did a freestyle over Mike Will's States beat. The Bruiser Brigade is definitely a crew to look out for. OHNANA.

Many times things are not so "black and white" which causes uncertainty and can make us feel lost. I can relate to Alone With My Thoughts and Underrated Greatness the most. Fresh Video: Curren$y "Jet Life" (feat. Big K.R.I.T. & Wiz Khalifa)

Curren$y just dropped visuals to his second single and my favorite track Jet Life, which is off of his album The Stoned Immaculate. This song features Big K.R.I.T. and Wiz Khalifa, but unfortunately K.R.I.T. didn't make the video shoot. Fresh Beat Tape: TDeezy "Medium"

 

As you may or may not know, T-Deezy dropped a beat tape titled Medium yesterday. The tracks very relaxing and I think Medium is a great title for the tape. The album artwork is flowy, and a little abstract. The song names are clever and funny! My favorite tracks are Positive Energy, $haker Height$ (Shoutout to my old hood haha), Profit, Thank You, and Fried Bologna $andwiche$!

Fresh EP: Crack Killz "The Beautification Project Vol. 3"

 I thought it would stop at The Beautification Project Vol. 2, but I guess I was wrong. Crack Killz is back at it with The Beautification Project Vol. 3. There are 7 tracks and all of them are dope. Crack seems to create songs for all of my moods. Just like the previous Beautification Projects, this is all Crack, with no features. Majority of the tracks were produced by Da G, but one was produced by Westside Kharri.

Fresh EP: B-Smooth "The Soundcheck"

Wow......... Wish I could end the post saying that.. but, I feel it deserves more! B-Smooth really blew me away with his latest EP The Soundcheck. The tracks are strategically placed, and have a great storyline. We all know that love can be a bittersweet and is a very touchy subject. The Soundcheck is a beautiful love story to say the least. Love it.

RTF College Tour : Western Michigan University

The homies over at RTF are having a RTF College Tour and will be beginning in Kalamazoo at Western Michigan University. With performances from Drew 32, Peez, Sigidy, J.G, and Gino The Ghost, this is sure to be a nice show.

Fresh Mixtape: Richy Marciano "Reflections II"

At last, Reflections II is here from Richy Marciano! The last project released from Richy was Reflections, which was released in July of 2011.

I'm impressed with Reflections II, and can see the years worth of growth in his music. I can listen to it all the way through without having to skip a song, which is pretty rare for me. Each track really seems to have a classic vibe to it which is why it is so appealing to me.  Morning Shift, Vacation (Dej Loaf was the perfect feature), and My Niggas are straight crack. Two tacks produced by the woamie T-Deezy and one by the gawd Nolan The Ninja. Reflections II was well put together, and will get daily rotation in my iTunes.

Detroit, stand up!

Winner of the Underground Exposure Project: The Chase

So, this process has been going on a while, but finally we are at the end of the road. Both xCaliber Lifestyle and Radical BEings are proud to announce the winner of the Underground Exposure Project to be The Chase. The Chase is an Atlanta-based urban band consisting of three members including Paul Jones, Murphy II, and Jamal Press. The song they sent over for the contest was "Too Much Too Fast". What I like about them is that they veer away from they type of Hip Hop that is praised now-a-days. All three of them are very lyrical and choose their word choice wisely. You will definetly see more posts on them in the future! We will be sending some goodies over their way soon. Joey FATTS drops another version to his original "Fuck With My Team", but this one includes A$AP Mob member Twelvyy. I'm guessing this will be on his next project titled HOF, which drops soon. Joey usually produces nice tracks, so I don't think HOF should be any type of disappointment.

Fresh Music: Joey Bada$$ "Home" (Prod: Chuck Strangers)

 

You know that show "If You Really Knew Me"? Well, I'm here to confess that if you really knew me, you'd know I listen to Joey Bada$$ everyday. I haven't heard anything from Joey since the 1999 mixtape, but he is back at it with a track called Home produced by Pro Era's own Chuck Strangers. Chuck has a tape releasing called "Free Bass" in which different artists from Pro Era will be rapping over beats produced by him. In this song, Joey mostly speaks about his traveling experiences, and finally being back home. At the end, he says "Somebody tell Hov I'm taking the throne".... pretty ambitious? Yes, but he definitely has time to reach for that goal..

STORi is a singer/songwriter from Newark, NJ who is signed to NextDay/Motown/Universal. STORi mixes her angelic voice and great lyrical abilities to bring something fresh and exciting to music. Expect to hear a lot more from this rising star in the making.

UEP Music Submission: Continental Floyd "Hold It Down"

 Jersey born, Michigan bred, hip-hop artist with a diligent work ethic for greatness is working on his 2nd project. "Proper Representation" embodies what some has called the 'lost art' in his music. That lost art being vivid description and story-telling in such an ability it would make you feel as if you're directly connected to the subject matter, at hand. That just art is displayed with his lead, Hold It Down. The 26 year old student of the music, in which he loves, is more than determined to leave his mark.

Fresh EP: Crack Killz "The Beautification Project Vol. 2"

 

At 12 a.m. Crack released the The Beautification Project Volume 2, which is a follow up to the original Beautification Project. Right before that, he released some visuals to a track called That's Fasho featuring ZelooperZ. Seems like Crack was just on a roll yesterday. Volume 2 of The Beautification Project is a 6 track EP that is put together, well..... beautifully. Track by track, there seems to be a storyline about love. If you look at the difference in the album artwork between the two, you'll see that in one he seems to be in the foreground and have a ladyfriend in the background. In the other, you will see that him and the ladyfriend are face-to-face with pleasant smiles on their faces. Sun in the background, and overall the cover is green, which represents growth! With that being said, I LOVE the concept of the album artwork.

 Production includes 4 tracks from Da G, 1 from the homie T Deezy, and 1 track from Soundboy. He didn't have many features, actually only 1 someone that goes by the name of ISIAH, who recited a poem.

I rock with every song on here, but one song I constantly have on replay is Show Me It's True. I love how they took the instrumental from Xscape's classic Who Can I Run To and made it a little different. AMAZING. Overall these are two immaculate EP's and I suggest you listen and download both The Beautification Project and The Beautification Project Volume 2!

Visuals to "That's Fasho" from Crack Killz featuring Zelooperz was released not too long ago. This was my favorite track off of The Beautification Project. Crack and Ze on a track are a great combination, and Ze has the best adlibs!

Fresh Mixtape: PDK "Skinny Nigga Dope Flow"

The 17 year old artist PDK out of Detroit sent me his mixtape Skinny Nigga Dope Flow to listen to, and I think it deserves a post. It seems like younger artists are finally getting the point, and that is to go for longevity and not temporary success. PDK has a great flow, throws in a few double entendres, and overall a nice amount of lyrical content.

The songs that stick out to me are The Power of Chi!, Mr Skinny Jeans, Underrated Radio, and Game Over. Overall, I think this is a pretty solid project, and I would love to have some visuals for Underrated Radio! Listen and download Skinny Nigga Dope Flow
